Our Few Words

Rosso Corsa Records continue releasing albums on a monthly basis and have caught our attention with Memories of the Future by Final DJs.

Final DJs is Sebastian Stuetzis; a musician mostly known for his influence on the Nu Disco genre as well as blending in other electronic genres such as deep house and, funnily enough, synthwave! Final DJs is bringing beloved Daft Punk influenced funk straight to our speakers. He brings a full feature album which is promising especially with it’s rather pretty album cover.

Stuttgart Nights comes straight in with the kick and snare with very similar vibes when comparing it to Face to Face by Daft Punk. It’s got funk guitar, trippy samples and dream inducing melodies. Deep Inside lets the bongos do the talking until it strikes in with that nostalgic early 00’s house vibes. Lost Transition brings it home with the synthwave drive that offers this retro and eery sound which may be less interesting than the previous songs but a relaxed journey nonetheless. Starlight picks up the pace with a slow build up and channelling that electro funk.

Polynation is a brilliant build up track that makes great use of the vocal samples and delay soaked synth sounds. Mountain of Ice screams 80’s montage from the get go is a hell of a ride lasting nearly 6 and a half minutes. Sunrise is a slow and steady track funking its way through with a decent beat with a chilled groove. The finale is a near 7 minute epic with Analogis with some great progressive elements to keep the song groovy and interesting.

Final Djs recent release does have those elements of synthwave in there and that works brilliant with the nu disco core. Instrumentally it’s a solid effort which fans of Daft Punk and Kavinsky would solely enjoy. Memories of the Future is a relaxing yet groovy record that definitely showcases that influence of synthwave and does a tremendous job in fusing that with nu disco. For an artist who is stepping out of his comfort zone a little, Final Djs does a tremendous job in providing a fresh and funk induced record with Memories of the Future.
